About

A little bit about myself

I am 31, married to a wonderful man, and mother to a beautiful baby boy born November 2012. The 3 of us live in a little house in Red Wing, Minnesota, a picturesque town nestled in the bluffs along the Mississippi, with our 2 cats, Shandy and Finnegan, and our cairn terrier, Moxie.

Our house was built in 1922 and since we bought it in 2008 we've been slowly working at fixing it up. Not that it was in terrible shape, but a house that old just needs work, pretty much constantly. Some things have been minor, like new coats of paint, and others more extensive. Ask me about the bathroom remodel...

In my spare time, I watch too much TV. I picked up crochet as a way to feel productive while watching TV. I decided to buy a sewing machine because I wanted curtains for the baby's room the summer before he was born. I'm blaming it on hormones. Coincidentally I'm also blaming the fact that we have a dog on hormones. Found out the babe was on the way 2 days after we brought home a puppy. Great planning.

I also try to garden, just a few flowers and basic vegetables. Nothing fancy. We have a very small yard but do our best to make it look nice. We are currently failing at growing grass, but if you cut green weeds short, it looks the same from a distance, right?

A disclaimer about the blog...

I am not an expert, or even good at most the things I try on this blog. Everything I know about sewing came from reading other blogs and the very helpful instruction book to my sewing machine. I learned to crochet by watching videos on the interwebs. My philosophy on gardening is "stick it in the ground, water it, hope it grows", which sometimes works, and often doesn't.  Things I bake generally turn out, but I can't cook. I once made eggs that were burned and runny at the same time. No thanks.

But I am willing to give new things a shot. I like DIY projects. Not only do they tend to save money, but I like the feeling of accomplishment when I actually finish something. And I like to keep busy. Having a project keeps my various neuroses in check.

So as I try new things I'll document them here, success or failure, under the assumption that others might find my experience helpful. Or informative. Or at least humorous.
